There are no greater eyes than Knowledge, no greater principle to strive for than truth, 
no greater misery than attachment and no greater happiness than sacrifice for others

पात्रात्वाद्  धनमाप्नोति धनाद्धर्मस्तत:सुखं  ||

Paathraathvaad Dhanamaapnoti Dhanaadh Dharmaasthathaha Sukham

Knowledge makes one humble; humility begets worthiness
Worthiness creates wealth and enrichment; enrichment leads to right conduct; right conduct brings contentment

अधनस्यकुतोमित्रं अमित्रस्यकुत: सुखं ||

Alasasyakuthovidya Avidyasyakuthodhanam

There is no knowledge for the lethargic, no wealth for the ignorant, 
No friends without wealth and no happiness without friends

नरस्याभरणं रूपम् रूपस्याभरणं गुण: |
गुणस्याभरणं  ज्ञानम्  ज्ञानस्याभरणं क्षमा  ||


Narasyabharanam roopam, Roopasyabharanam gunah
Gunasyabharanam gyaanam, Gyaanasyabharanam kshamaa

The essence of a being is the physical form, the essence of the form is  guna (virtue),

The essence of virtue is knowledge, the essence of knowledge is forgiveness

कोकिलाणां  स्वरोरूपम् स्त्रीणां रूपं पतिव्रता |
विध्यारूपं कुरूपाणां साधुणां च तथा क्षमा  ||

Kokilanam swaro roopam, Sthreenam roopam pativrataa 
Vidyaroopam kuroopanam, Sadhoonam cha tatha kshama

The beauty of a cuckoo lies in its musical notes; the beauty of a woman in her devotion to her husband;
The beauty of an ugly person lies in his knowledge; the beauty of a saint lies in his patience

अमन्त्रम अक्षरं नास्ति नास्ति मूलमनौषधं |

अयोग्यपुरुषो नास्ति योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभ: ||

Amantram aksharam naasti, Naasti moolamanaushadham, 

Ayogya purusho naasti Yojakastatra durlabhaha

There is not a syllable which cannot be used in a hymn; not a root that cannot be used in a medicine;
There is no person who is useless; Only the person who can harness them, is hard to find!

अयं निजः परोवेति  गणना लघुचेतसाम् |
उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम्  ||

Ayam Nijaha Parovethi Ganana Laghuchetasaam
Udhaaracharitaanaam Tu Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam

This is mine, That is not mine - This is the attitude of narrow-minded ones;

For the noble-minded, the entire universe is one family

अश्वं नैव गजं नैव व्याघ्रं नैव च नैव च  |
अजापुत्रं बलिं दद्यात् देवो दुर्बलघातुक: ||


Ashvam naiva gajam naiva, vyaaghram naiva cha naiva cha
Ajaaputram balim dadyaat, devo durbalaghaatukaha

Not a horse, not an elephant and never a tiger. A sheep is offered as sacrifice for the 

god. Even God punishes the weak!

आहारनिद्राभयामैथुनञ्च सामान्यमेत पशुभिर्नराणां  |
धर्मो हि तेषां अधिको विशेष: धर्मेणहीन:पशुभिस्समान: ||

Aahaara nidra bhaya maithunancha, Samanyameta pashubhir naraanam, 
Dharmo hi tesham adhiko visheshah, Dharmena heena pashubhissmanaha

Hunger, sleep, fear, and physical pleasuers are common to both animals and human 
beings. It is the adherence to Dharma that distinguishes human beings from animals. 
Without Dharma, human beings and animals are the same

सत्यं ब्रूयात्  प्रियं ब्रूयात् न ब्रूयात्  सत्यमप्रियं  |
प्रियञ्च नानृतं ब्रूयात्  एष : धर्म : सनातन: ||


Satyam bruyaat priyam bruyaat, na bruyaat satyam apriyam. 
Priyancha naanritam bruyaat, esah dharmah sanatanaha

Truth should be spoken, What is pleasant should be spoken. Unpleasant truth should not 

be spoken. Pleasant lies are also not to be spoken. This is the ancient Dharma

प्रियवाक्य प्रदानेन सर्वे तुष्यन्ति जन्तव: |
तस्मात् तदेव वक्तव्यं वचने का दरिद्रता?


Priya vaakya pradaanena sarve tushyanti jantavaha
Tasmaat tadeva vaktavyam, vachane kaa daridrataa

By offering of sweet words, everyone can be pleased. 

Therefore offer sweet words. Why be mean in speech?

किं भारं समर्थानां किं दूरं व्यवसायिनाम्  |
को विदेश: सविध्यानां क: पर: प्रियवादिनाम्  ||


Kim bhaaram samarthanam, kim dooram vyavasaayinaam, 
Ko videshah savidyanam,kah parah priyavaadinaam

What is heavy for a capable man? What is distance for a business man? 
Which is a 

foreign country for a learned man? Who is an alien to a sweet spoken person?

आरम्भगुर्वी  क्षयिणी क्रमेण |

लघ्विपुरा वृद्धिमती च पश्चात्  ||
दिनस्य पूर्वार्ध परार्ध भिनना  |
छायैव  मैत्री खलु सज्जनानां  ||


Aarambha gurvi kshyini kramena,  
laghvi pura vriddhimati cha pashchat, 
Dinasya poorvaardha paraardha bhinna,  
Chaayaiva maithri khalu sajjanaanam

Very big to start with, but dies down soon; very small in the beginning and 
then grows steadily. 
The friendship with wicked and noble ones are like 

the shadows after noon and before noon

Truth is always victorious

Devoid of learning and knowledge, you are verily an animal

|| उध्योगिनं पुरुषसिंहमुपैति  लक्ष्मी: ||

Udyoginam Purushasimhamupaiti Lakshmeehi 

Lakshmi graces only the industrious

|| धर्मार्थकाममोक्षामारोग्यं मूलं उत्तमम्  ||

Dharmaarthakaamokshaamaarogyam Moolam Uttamam 

Dharma Artha Kama Mosksha is the fundamental secret to removal of all miseries

|| जलविन्दुनिपातेन क्रमश: पूर्यते घट: ||

Jalavindu Nipaathena Kramashaha Pooryate Ghataha 

Tiny drops of water falling one by one gradually fill up the big vessel

******************************************************************************

|| य: क्रियावान्  स: पण्डित: ||

Yaha Kriyaavaan Saha Panditaha 

One who exerts effort is a learned man

******************************************************************************

|| अति सर्वत्र वर्जयेत् ||

Ati Sarvatra Varjayet 

Avoid excess of anything

|| निर्वाणदीपे किं तैलदानम्  ||

Nirvaanadeepe Kim Thailadaanam 

The enlightened person does not need to light a lamp

|| मानो हि महतां धनं ||

Maano Hi Mahatam Dhanam 

Self-respect is the most treasured wealth for a noble person

|| स्वदेशे पूज्यते राजा विद्वान सर्वत्र पूज्यते  ||

Swadeshe Poojyate Raja, Vidvaan Sarvatra Poojyate 

A king is regarded only within a country, a learned person is worshipped everywhere

|| दुर्दुराः यत्रवक्तार: तत्र मौनं हि शोभनं  ||

Durduraaha Yatravaktaarah Tatra Mounam Hi Shobhanam 

The greatness of silence mitigates harmful speech

|| न मातु: परम् दैवतं ||

Na Maatuhu Param Daivatam 

There is no greater God than Mother

||यथा बीजं तथा निष्पत्ति:||

Yatha Beejam Tatha Nishpatthihi

As is the seed, so are the leaves of that tree

|| सर्वं जयत्यक्रोध: ||

Sarvam Jayatyakrodhaha

Everyone should conquer their anger

|| न रूपशोभा रमते गुणै: ||

Na roopashobha ramate gunaihi

Without virtues good look is worthless

|| तप्तं तप्तं पुनरपि पुन: काञ्चनंकाञ्चवर्णं  ||

Taptam Taptam Punarapi Punaha Kaanchanam Kaanthavarnam

Through repeated cycles of heating the gold attains radiance

|| लोचनाभ्यां विहीनस्य दर्पण: किं करिष्यति  ||

Lochanaabhyaam Viheenasya Darpanaha KimKarishyati

If the eyes do not have sight, what can the mirror do

|| मिथाभोजनं स्वास्थ्यम् ||

Mitabhojanam Swaasthyam

Moderate diet is the secret to good health

|| नास्त्यहन्कारसम: शत्रु: ||

Naasthyahankaarasamaha Shatruhu

There is no enemy greater than ego

******************************************************************************

|| लोभ: पापस्यं  कारणम्  ||

Lobhaha Papasyam Karanam

Greed is the root cause of all vices

|| सर्वधर्मेनिधनं  श्रेय: परधर्मो भयावह: ||

Sarvadharmenidhanam Shreyaha Paradharmo Bhayavahaha

Follow your own Dharma, however humble it may be

|| परोपकार: पुण्याय  पापाय परपीडनम्  ||

Paropakaaraaya Punyaaya Paapaaya Parapeedanam

Kindness to others is the greatest virtue, inflicting pain is the greatest sin

|| श्रमयेव परो यज्ञ: श्रमयेव परं  तपं  ||

Shramayeva Paro Yajnaha Shramayeva Param Tapam

Hard work is the highest sacrifice and the greatest penance
